Traditional Organizational Designs - Simple Structure: It has little departmentalization, wide spans of control, authority centralized in a single person and little formalization. It is ideal for new entrants. - Functional Structure: Groups similar specialties or occupations. - Divisional Structure: Made up of independent or simultaneous units or divisions. Contemporary Organizational Designs - Team Structure: The entire company is made up of work groups or teams, giving greater power to employees. - Matrix and Project Structure: In the matrix, workers from different departments are assigned to work on a project, having a dual chain of command. For its part, in the project department, employees continually work on different initiatives, differing from the matrix because it lacks formal departments to which employees must return after finishing a project. - Organization Without Limits: Its design is not defined by horizontal, vertical or external limits that impose a structure. - Vertical Organization: Small number of full-time workers and external specialists hired on a temporary basis according to the demands of the project. - Task Forces: Commission or temporary work team formed with the purpose of solving a specific, short-term problem that affects several departments. - Open Innovation: Openness to the search for new ideas beyond the limits of the organization. Remote Work Work configuration that allows workers to work at home through a computer. - Compressed Work Week: Work schedule in which employees work more hours per day, but fewer days per week. - Flexible schedules: Scheduling system where employees work a certain number of hours, but with free choice of how to distribute them within certain parameters. - Shared Jobs: Practice where 2 or more people occupy the same full-time job. - Contingent Employees: Temporary employees who depend on work demand.
