Moving Straight Ahead Henri: d = 45 + 1 • t Emile: d= 0 + 2.5 • t Emile walks 50 meters in 20 seconds. The brothers are 15 meters apart. Emile is at 50 meters and Henri is at 65 meters. In the table you look at the 20 second column, in the graph you find 20 seconds and go up until you hit each line on the graph. Emile has a steeper line. You can tell this from the equation because for Emile you multiply by 2.5 which is greater than what you multiply by for Henri. Emile's line crosses the y axis at 0 or (0,0). Henri's line crosses the y axis at 45 or (0,45). It is the distance each boy starts at during the race. In the table it is when time is equal to zero. In the equation it is the starting value or constant.
