Character Monologue—STUDENT example Elf King I was singing, and having a feast, I was having a grand time; as king that is kind of my job. I even had my crown on made of red berries and leafs, did I mention we are quite the craftsman? Anyways I saw these dwarves, and I thought to myself this could be no good. They got closer and came into my kingdom! How dare they stop at my kingdom without permission? Right then I realized I had to do something. But see I am smart; I captured their leader (not just any old guy), Thorin, and questioned him, asking him “why are you traveling in Mirkwood?” He did not utter a sound, obviously trying to keep a secret from me, nobody keeps secrets from me, I am a king and nobody keeps secrets from me. I decided on throwing him in the dungeon, but don’t worry I am not that cruel I am actually a nice king; I gave him food to eat so he wouldn’t starve. When the sun rose I found the remaining adventurers, and captured them too. It was quite easy because they were tired and hungry. It almost seemed that they gave themselves up, which was quite odd. Oh, but that little hobbit had to foil my plans, by somehow saving the dwarves. He had quite a peculiar plan by transporting them down river in barrels. How did my guards not catch them? Note to self – get better guards! I thought I had it in the bag. I was going to make him and his crew sit in there until they told me their secret, but no the hobbit had to come to the rescue. Rats! I figured the king never loses and, I wanted another shot. About two weeks passed, and then I heard word that the great Smaug was dead. Killed by Bard, and that “Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror,” is now the one who claims the treasure, because of his ancestors. Right when I heard the name Thorin I knew that they were trying to keep me from getting the treasure. I quickly gathered up an army to fight for the treasure, made up of the men in my kingdom, and the remaining men of Lake Town, I was determined to get this treasure.
