LYME DISEASE
What is it ?
(NHS ND) states that "Lyme
disease is a bacterial infection that
can be spread to humans by
infected ticks". These are found in
wooded areas and areas with long
grass.
How can Lyme disease be prevented
Some ways to prevent Lyme disease is to avoid long grass,
wear long sleeved shirts, tuck trousers into socks, wear light
coloured clothes, use insect repellant and to check and remove
any ticks that are found immediately. Wearing light clothing can
help prevent Lyme disease because it helps you to see any
ticks that may be on any clothing.
Pathogen
Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria called Boreilla Burgdorfi,
there are ticks that carry this bacteria, they are called black-
legged ticks which are also named deer ticks. It is transmitted
to humans through the bite of the black-legged tick, these
ticks become infected when they feed on birds or mammals
that carry this bacteria in their blood.
