What is the AMDR for fat in the diet? The AMDR for fat and carbohydrate is estimated to be 20 to 35 and 45 to 65 percent of energy for adults. Dietary fat is a food that helps your body absorb important vitamins like A, D, E, and K, as well as antioxidants. What was your perception of dietary fat before reading this week’s resources? My perception of dietary fat before looking at the reading was that it wasn’t healthy. Although I was aware that there are healthy fats just the word fat made it sound not healthy. After I reviewed the reading, I now understand the importance of fat and that the word can be misleading. I learned that dietary fat and healthy fat are the same ideas. I now understand that it is important to introduce more beneficial, healthy fats into my diet. How has your perception changed? My perception of fat changed after reading this week's reading. I now understand the importance of fat to our bodies. I now understand that fat gives your body energy, protects your organs, promotes cell development, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, and aids in the absorption of essential nutrients. I will now try to add good fats into my diet more, unlike unsaturated fats like fatty acids and monosaturated fats. Breakfast 8 oz. whole milk 8 oz. orange juice 2 fried eggs (fried in butter) 2 slices sourdough toast with 1 tablespoon butter Snack 1/2 peanut butter and jelly sandwich: 1 slice white bread, 1 tablespoon Skippy peanut butter, 1 tablespoon grape jelly Lunch 8 oz. cream of tomato soup 1 oz. potato chips 1 sandwich: 2 oz. turkey, 1 oz. salami, 2 slices white bread, 1 tablespoon mayonnaise 8 oz. grape juice Snack 6 oz. fruited yogurt, sweetened, whole milk Dinner 5 oz. dark meat chicken, fried 1 medium baked potato with 1 tablespoon butter, 1 tablespoon sour cream, and 1 tablespoon bacon, chopped 1/2 cup cooked broccoli with 1 tablespoon butter 8 oz. cola 4 oz. whole milk Snack 1/2 cup chocolate ice cream I suggest that in order to lower her cholesterol that Mrs. Smith should make the following changes: Instead of at breakfast having two fried eggs with butter which is high in cholesterol, I suggest that she replace it by having half an avocado with maybe oatmeal to lower the cholesterol. Another thing I would suggest that Mrs. Smith do to cut down her cholesterol is to replace the milk at dinner with almond milk. Almonds are a great source of healthy fat. I would also suggest that Mrs. Smith replace the dark meat chicken, fried at dinner. Meat is high in cholesterol and probably would be a good idea for her to replace it with something like salmon. Although salmon can be high in cholesterol it also contains healthy fats as well. Salmon is a great source of healthy fats as well as Omega-3. I suggest replacing the meat at lunch with tofu. Instead of having butter, which is high in cholesterol, she can replace it with avocado oil. avocado oil is a healthy fat and oil as well.
