Anxiety disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive and PTSD - 12 points

Directions: Read the scenarios of each patient. In the DIAGNOSIS box write the psychological disorder. Then in

the SYMPTOMS box write an example from the scenario about the patient and their symptoms. Be very specific

and show how the symptom of the patient matches the diagnosis.

Patient: Monty Montgomery

Monty was in a car accident a month ago. When the paramedics arrived, he was experiencing terror,

chest pains, and he could not catch his breath. He cannot get that feeling of worrying about another accident

out of his head as he is afraid of being in another wreck. Lately he seems to be avoiding driving all together. His

constant worry created another episode of panic last week where he could not even step foot into the car.

Diagnosis: Panic disorder

Symptoms: Terror, chest pains, short

ness of breath

Patient: Winifred Banks

Winifred works at a retail store but lately she is feeling overwhelmed with her job. She constantly

worries that she is going to get fired and always seems flustered or agitated when her boss walks through the

store. When her co-workers talk to her they notice she looks flushed in the face and her eyes are dilated.

Winifred has no idea why she is feeling so stressed as she used to love her job. Her tension and apprehension

are even following her home now.

Symptoms: Constant worry about getting

Patient- Kevin Hardman

Kevin has a concern with germs. He excessively washes his hands and cleans around him, to make sure

he

is near clean surfaces and to eliminate his thoughts about germs. The concern about touching germs

or

getting sick has started to hurt his business. He now will no longer shake a customer's hand or use public

facilities.

Diagnosis: Obsessive Compulsive

Symptoms: Excessive hand washing and
