That's all I could get out of Merril tonight He's blowin' his loot from that last race.” Chapter 4 Evidence from “The Outsiders” “He didn't bat an eye when Johnny told him what had happened, only grinned and said "Good for you" when Johnny told how he had knifed the Soc.” -Chapter 4 As somebody who was a part of an actual gang, Dally knew how to be extra tough. He was arrested at ten, was desensitized to manslaughter, and owned a gun. The only thing that he truly couldn’t handle was losing his closest friend (Johnny). Dally gave them all that he had, risking going to jail to help them. In chapter 5 Dally came to help them out, once again risking himself to make sure they were doing okay. Evidence from “The Outsiders” Evidence from “The Outsiders” “Dally had spent three years on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten. He was tougher than the rest of us--- tougher, colder, meaner. The shade of diﬀerence that separates a greaser from a hood wasn't present in Dally.” -Chapter 1 Because Dally lived in a tough part of NYC for three years when he was growing up, he knew how to be dangerous. He also knew how react in certain situations as he did in chapter 4 when he knew where to send Johnny and Ponyboy and what supplies to give them. Dally’s character traits largely aﬀect his worldview. Dally showed that he was tough when it was revealed that he believed that taking a life wasn't an evil thing to do. He believed this because of what he had known and been involved in. He wasn’t fazed when he was told Johnny and Ponyboy’s story. We could understand that he was rough when we were told about his past in NYC. We were able to conclude that he had a worldview that showed his ability to gage what somebody needed in a short amount of time. He knew this because because of when and where he was brought up. Dally also showed that he was reliable when he risked going to jail in order to help Ponyboy and Johnny. This showed that he valued his friends over himself and believed it was more important to help them. Lastly, Dally showed that he had the ability to be rude when he was rude to the girls, clearly valuing himself over them. He mostly had this worldview because of the time he was raised in. In conclusion, Dally is a complex character with an interesting and complex worldview. “Dally eyed them coolly, then walked down the aisle and sat right behind them. I had a sick feeling that Dally was up to his usual tricks, and I was right. He started talking, loud enough for the two girls to hear. He started out bad and got worse. Dallas could talk awful dirty if he wanted to and I guess he wanted to then.” -Chapter 2 He was able to be really rude towards the girls and he decided to do so.
