Do you know the difference? When does 10 succession happen? When does 20 succession happen? Have you experiences or seen either of these types of succession happening around where you live? How about where you have vacationed? What causes the environment to change? Criteria 5: I can predict how an ecosystem can change in response to a disruption. • How would the environment be different if these things happened? • How would an environment’s abiotic and biotic factors start to come back? What is happening in the environment to allow organisms to grow exponentially? What is happening in the environment that forces populations to grow logistically? Criteria 2: I can identify examples of densitydependent and density-independent limiting factors that affect populations. The number of organisms influences the effects of the factor. Density-Independent factors: The number of organisms has no influence on the effect of the factor. Hurricane? Earthquake? Drought? Natural occurrences Increasing water temperatures affect fish behavior Criteria 3: I can explain how a population’s size will change as a result of changing factors What will happen to the raccoon population if there is no sunlight for a year? What will happen to the turtle population if a new species of snail invades this ecosystem? What could cause a change in the growth of the plants in the water?
