Maylani wishes to use her new knowledge of psychology to become a better learner in all of her classes. Help her create a learning plan by explaining how each of these concepts can assist or hinder her: • Encoding When it comes to studying or learning things better, encoding can help you tremendously. Encoding is basically studying things over and over again until you have that certain information memorized into your brain. Studying things repeatedly until you have them memorized is the best way to study. With encoding, you encode that information into your brain. • Recall When studying/learning, you can use recall to basically drill information into your brain. Kind of like encoding, you can use recall to study things repeatedly until they are in your memory for good. Studying things over and over will make it easier to recall that information during a test. Recall can make studying a lot easier. • Chunking If you are studying/learning then you can use chunking to put groups of information together so it will be easier to remember. By grouping all your information together it will be easier for you to remember certain things that might correlate with each other. • Proactive Interference Proactive interference can help when studying and/or learning information because actually engaging in certain activities like learning games or just overall something fun to help you learn will help a lot. Studying can get really boring, but if you put something fun along with it, then it can cause your brain to learn easier. • Self-consistency Bias The self-consistency bias can help when learning/studying because you can keep yourself accountable for learning. You can make yourself look over the information better/more often and it will help you to learn it easier and faster. • Sleep The amount of sleep you get is very important when it comes to studying/learning. If you are extremely tired and have had very little sleep then you won’t be able to remember information very well because your brain needs rest. But by getting enough sleep your brain will be fully charged and able to remember information.
