The Uber Game: Summary The Uber Game is an interactive game that simulates what it is like to work as an Uber driver, while having to meet a minimum weekly income. At first, I played the game as someone with good credit, who rented a Toyota Prius, but because of the decisions I made along the way I did not meet my weekly minimum, despite making responsible decisions and completing one of the weekly quests, in which I received a bonus. On my second try of playing, I decided to drive on a harder level, starting out with bad credit, so the price to rent my Toyota Prius increased over$100. Going through the same rides the second time, I knew where I needed to change my strategies, and I met my minimum weekly income and completed two quests. At the end of both of my drives, the game calculated my total income minus costs incurred and told me my average hourly rate. On the easy level, I came out around $16/hour without meeting my goal, but on the hard level, I was around $12/hour with meeting my goal. Being someone who has always ridden with an Uber, but never driven for Uber, this game was really insightful for me. Sometimes, my avatar would be in the car for hours at a time, and only come out with around $60. My question after playing this game is: Is being a full-time Uber driver reasonable enough to pay bills and have time for family and friends? It seems that if someone had the option to take a minimum wage job or drive for Uber, they should drive for Uber; however, investing in a degree to be able to have a higher paying job and work for less hours would be more preferable for most people.
