Kayley Martinez Jazz Journal 4/19/23 Miss. Aimee Throughout these few weeks, my class was introduced to jazz dance styles. It was an excited and energizing experience that I won’t soon forget. The rhythm and styles got me moving, and I couldn’t help but feel exhilarated. Miss Aimee showed us all kinds of great dance moves that we can use for personal reference in the future. We worked on multiple steps such as step-ball change, Lindy hop, and other moves that really highlighted the energy and style of jazz. Once everything was put together, I started to get the hang of it to the point where I let the music control my movements. I found myself completely engrossed in the music, and I danced with more confidence and energy than I ever had before. One of the most exciting things to learn was the Lindy Hop. The steps to the Lindy Hop was very quick and it required me to let loose and move as fast as possible. The Lindy Hop also helps increase flexibility and coordination so that I am less likely to injure myself. It can also improve balance! The step ball change is also very similar to that it also improves balance and helps you put weight equally on both legs. When it came to the dancing, I focused on my breathing and of course making sure that I can safely balance myself. It’s fairly easy to get injured when it comes to dancing. As a correction for myself, I have to slow down. Usually when I dance, I go at a quick pace to the point where I am slightly ahead of the class. I also need to adjust my feet. It’s hard since I have never done this professionally before! With easy practice, I can turn those imperfections into something powerful
