Although both have the same goal of achieving stable and sustainable economic growth, they have different roles and approaches. 1. Monetary policy: • Monetary policy is managed by a country's central bank, such as a national central bank or other monetary authority. • The main objective of monetary policy is to regulate the supply of money and interest rates in the economy to influence inflation rates, economic growth and financial stability. • The main tool of monetary policy is interest rates. Central banks can raise interest rates to encourage saving, control inflation, and reduce excessive economic growth. Conversely, central banks can lower interest rates to encourage investment, increase lending, and support economic growth. • In addition to interest rates, central banks can also use other monetary policy instruments, such as buying government bonds (quantitative easing) or setting minimum reserve requirements for commercial banks. • Monetary policy is more flexible and quick in taking action to address changes in economic conditions, but its impact tends to be indirect and takes time to achieve the desired effect. 2. Fiscal policy: • Fiscal policy is managed by the government through budget and tax decisions. • The main objective of fiscal policy is to regulate government spending and revenue through public spending and changes in taxation to affect inflation rates, economic growth, and income distribution. • The main tools of fiscal policy are changes in the level of taxes and government spending. Governments can reduce taxes to encourage consumer spending and investment, or increase public spending to stimulate economic growth. Conversely, the government can also increase taxes and reduce spending to reduce the budget deficit and control inflation. • Fiscal policy has a more direct and visible impact on the economy, however its implementation requires a longer legislative process and involves various stakeholders in decision making. The importance of coordination between monetary and fiscal policies also needs attention.
