The Genus Homo and the Emergence of Us ANTH 2301 Homo heidelbergensis Technology and Culture Bodo is connected to the bifacial hand axes of the Achaeuleans. Because Acheulean hand axes have been unearthed with animal bones, some experts have speculated that Bodo slaughtered animals. The Bodo cranium has cutmarks on it that seem like they were created by using stone tools to cut fresh bone. According to certain theories, the Bodo skull has the earliest examples of flesh being removed using a stone instrument just after death. On the skull, the cutmarks were made symmetrically and in particular patterns, which is seen as compelling proof that the defleshing was carried out on purpose for burial customs. Once more, many have speculated that Bodo could have been engaging in cannibalism based on the cutmarks. Apart from the stone tools derived from the Acheulean tool industry, spears are thought to have been utilised by Homo heidelbergensis. The oldest spears that have been discovered date to almost 400,000 years ago and were discovered near Schöningen, Germany. The spears are thought to have had a range of around 35 metres and were fashioned from either pine or spruce wood. The application of hafting technique in these spears is likely the most significant technological advancement. Hafting is the process of fastening stone points to a handle composed of a different material, such bone, metal, or wood. The spears discovered in Schöningen are among the first examples of hominins combining disparate parts to form a single tool. Stone tools become more useful while they are hafting because they can now be hurled, fired, or wielded more forcefully, like an axe. People can hunt and kill animals more effectively because to the enhanced force and efficacy of these hafted stone points. It is thought that because of this enhanced effectiveness in hunting and killing animals, H. heidelbergensis was able to regularly get meat and other highquality meals. The existence of spears, according to some, is proof that H. heidelbergensis was able to hunt herd animals with quicker running speeds than humans and that their hunting techniques were complex and required cognitive abilities like anticipatory planning. Homo heidelbergensis lived in both caverns and open areas, similar to Homo ergaster and Homo erectus. They altered the websites instead of using them exactly as they were. Homo heidelbergensis's cultural behaviour is fascinating in part because it is linked to abundant archaeological evidence of their altered homes. For instance, a renovated home with a about 700,000-year-old stone foundation may be discovered in the Czech Republic. This house most likely had a roof made of thick branches. There are more altered homes in France and Germany. The majority of Homo heidelbergensis sites that have been quite well preserved have evidence of controlled fire. Israel is home to the oldest continuously recognised Homo heidelbergensis fire site, which dates back to 780,000 years.
