For instance, while the institution of marriage differs throughout cultures, it usually serves to forge bonds, assign duties, and offer support to the community (MacDonald, 1990). From this perspective, institutions serve as frameworks that support people in navigating social relationships and establishing a shared sense of identity, therefore enhancing societal resilience.
