The Gini Coefficient, which bears the name of Italian statistician and sociologist Corrado Gini, is an additional indicator of inequality. One widely used metric is the International Poverty Line, which is the percentage of a country's population that lives on less than $1.90 per day. Let's examine how the three main sociological views could further our knowledge of global inequality while keeping these analytical components in mind. The macroanalytical functionalist viewpoint emphasises how every facet of society is essential to the overall wellbeing and sustainability of the community. A functionalist would concentrate on the causes of global inequality and the social goals it advances. For instance, this perspective can contend that some countries are more adept than others at leveraging new technologies to adapt to a globalised economy, leading to global inequality, and that when core nation corporations set up shop in peripheral countries, they boost the local economy and benefit the workforce. The development and perpetuation of inequality are the main topics of conflict theory. The systematic inequity that results from core nations taking use of periphery nations' resources is something that a conflict theorist would probably examine. How many American businesses, for instance, exploit foreign labourers who do not have the same constitutional protections and minimum wage guarantees as Americans do? They can increase their earnings by doing this, but at what cost? The symbolic interaction viewpoint investigates the subjective character of poverty, the meanings people ascribe to global stratification, and the day-to-day effects of global inequality. If one were to apply this perspective to the issue of global inequality, they would likely concentrate on distinguishing between the two definitions of poverty: relative poverty, which is defined as the inability to lead a life comparable to that of the average citizen of your country, and extreme poverty, which is defined as the inability to pay for food and other necessities.
