As an integral part of modern technological developments, electronics continue to advance in various fields, one of which is electronic circuit systems. For an electronic circuit to function properly, the use of electronic components is very important. Therefore, students need to be taught the theory and introduction to basic electronic components and their applications in everyday life. The goal is to foster curiosity and motivation to develop their potential, talents, and interests in the field of electronics in particular and technology in general. With this approach, it is hoped that students will not only become users of technology, but also be able to develop into inventors, developers, and innovators in the fields of electronics and technology. Keywords: components, electronics, environment, technology INTRODUCTION Electronic devices are an important part of everyday life, such as televisions, laptops, printers, smartphones, air conditioners (AC), speakers, and projectors. These devices contain various electronic components that enable them to function properly. Electronic components are an important part of the assembly of circuit systems, both simple and complex, with certain requirements and configurations so that the circuit can operate as intended. These components have various shapes and functions depending on their role in the system. Generally, these components are mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB) through a soldering process (Harahap et al., 2020). MICHAEL KURNIAWAN 1 Study Case In general, electronic components are classified into two categories, namely passive components and active components. However, understanding of these components is still limited among the public, including students in schools. As the next generation, students need to acquire a basic understanding of electronics from an early age. They have great potential to interact with various electronic devices throughout their lives. This understanding will be an important foundation for developing talents and interests in the field of technology, which is expected to produce various new innovations that will be useful in the long term. For this reason, it is very important to introduce basic electronic components and their applications in the surrounding environment from elementary school level. In the context of the United States, this activity can be implemented in elementary schools as part of the formal education program. For example, Cincinnati Elementary School in Ohio collaborated with the University of Cincinnati to carry out community service activities in the form of introducing basic electronic components and their simple applications. This program aims to help students develop and direct their interests, talents, and potential in the field of electronics and technology as part of efforts to face the progress of the times . METHOD The implementation of this activity is divided into three main stages, namely the delivery of material and introduction of components, introduction to their application in circuits, and evaluation of the activity results. Delivery of Material and Introduction to Basic Electronic Components This stage was carried out through interactive lectures and discussions. The material covered included an introduction to components such as resistors, variable resistors (potentiometers), light-dependent resistors (LDRs), capacitors, transistors, diodes, Zener diodes, integrated circuits (ICs), light-emitting diodes (LEDs), speakers, transformers, and switches. In addition, students are also introduced to materials and tools such as cables, soldering wire, soldering iron, breadboard (project board), and Printed Circuit Board (PCB). Introduction to Basic Electronic Component Applications At this stage, students are invited to learn firsthand about the various applications of MICHAEL KURNIAWAN 2 Study Case basic electronic components in simple circuit systems. This activity is carried out through demonstrations and group discussions so that students can understand the functions and relationships between components in a practical way. Activity Evaluation Stage The evaluation is carried out by directly involving students to find out their responses to this activity. The feedback obtained is used as material for improving future learning activities. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The presentation of material on basic electronic components was met with great enthusiasm from the students. This was evident from their attention and curiosity throughout the activity. The material was accompanied by pictures and visual descriptions of the components to aid the students' understanding. In addition, the students were also introduced to various tools such as cables, solder, soldering irons, project boards, and PCBs, which are part of electronic circuit systems, both for experimentation and assembly. The next stage was the introduction to the physical form and characteristics of several basic electronic components. In this session, students were allowed to observe and hold the components while discussing their functions and uses. Table 1. Some examples introduced in this activity include children's electronic toys, TV remotes, electric insect rackets, and portable music players. Figure 1. Portable music player During the evaluation stage, observations showed that students displayed a high level of interest in this activity. They were able to name several components that had been introduced and relate them to real-world applications in electronic circuits. Some students even expressed a desire to own these basic electronic components and try to assemble simple systems at home or in the school laboratory. MICHAEL KURNIAWAN 5 Study Case This activity shows that introducing basic electronics through a practical approach can effectively increase students' interest in science and technology. CONCLUSION The enthusiasm shown by the students during the activity indicates a strong motivation to understand, recognize, and learn about various basic electronic components, including materials and equipment related to electronic circuit systems and their applications. This interest is expected to foster motivation in developing students' potential, talents, and interests so that they are directed towards positive activities, especially in the field of electronics and technology in general. Through this initial activity, students are expected to not only become users of technology, but also develop into inventors, developers, and innovators in the field of electronics and technology in the future. Programs such as this are expected to become the initial foundation in nurturing a young generation that is ready to contribute to technological advancement in educational environments such as elementary schools in Cincinnati and its surrounding areas.
