Although Columbus was not the first European to reach America, his historic voyage marked the beginning of a new era, forever altering the course of human civilization. Christopher Columbus: Christopher Columbus, a Genoese explorer, embarked on his historic journey in 1492, driven by a potent mix of ambition, religious fervor, and the thirst for glory. Motivated by the desire to find a westward route to Asia and its riches, Columbus set sail under the patronage of the Spanish crown. His arrival in the West Indies and the Bahamas in October 1492 marked the beginning of a new chapter in world history. Columbus's voyages unleashed a wave of European exploration and colonization that would reshape the geopolitical landscape of the world. The Columbian Exchange: Columbus's arrival in the Americas initiated a profound exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures between the Old World and the New World. This exchange, known as the Columbian Exchange, had far-reaching consequences for both hemispheres.
