What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of traveling? Some may
say too expensive, no time, or afraid of flying. Others say, relieves stress, piece of mind,
memories, and exposure to new things. There appears to be some debate about traveling as a
hobby, with differing viewpoints and preferences on whether it is a stress relief or a money pit,
depending on who you ask. There are many people in the world who take monthly or yearly
breaks from their everyday stressful jobs or lives to travel the world because it’s good for their
mental health. While there are people out there who believe they don’t have the time nor the
money to travel or maybe are too afraid to travel or nervous they will be homesick. Today we
will discuss why traveling is a beneficial hobby because it’s good for the mental health, relives
anxiety, it’s a learning experience and it’s an ability for self-discovery in many ways.
It's no secret that travel is good for your physical health, but a growing body of scientific
evidence suggests that traveling can also benefit your mental and emotional wellness. “The stress
of work and daily demands can distract us from what we find to be actually meaningful and
interesting” (Dr. Tamara McClintock Greenberg, 2013). Taking time from work to travel to new
places relieves the stress you've been carrying. The tension and stress of your professional life
can be relieved, allowing your mind to relax and recuperate. Traveling makes you happier and
takes your mind off difficult events. Lower cortisol levels result, helping you feel more relaxed
and pleased. “More than 80% of Americans, who were surveyed, noticed significant drops in
stress just after a day or two of traveling” (Greenberg, 2013). Even if the only benefit you
received from going on vacation was peace of mind, it would still be considered a success.
How is traveling the world a learning experience? Visiting other parts of the world and
immersing yourself in different cultures provides up entirely new horizons for exploration. Evaluation Essay
Travel may be instructive in and of itself, and it can open your eyes in ways you never imagined.
You’re constantly learning through travel. It teaches you different ways of living, different
cultures, different foods, music, and even new languages. You can travel to places like Italy to
learn history or travel here in the USA to Salem to learn about witches and pirates. Traveling
challenges your communication, time management, and teaches you gratitude. You can become
more aware of yourself and the greater environment around you by traveling. There is so many
amazing benefits to traveling the world!
Many people say traveling is a very helpful way of self-discovery. When you're out on the
road, meeting new people and trying new things, you might see that you're gently reinventing
yourself as well. Or perhaps finally allowing the self you want to be to emerge. Travel may be
freeing in many ways, but none more so than in terms of self-discovery. Being thrust into a
foreign country without all your familiar comforts can be difficult, but it's frequently the
seriously challenging, personal difficulties that help you grow as a self-sufficient individual. The
useful lessons you pick up along the journey extend your horizons, making you more conscious
and receptive to new experiences.
As discussed above there are so many amazing benefits to traveling the world as a hobby!
