In the film ‘Divergent’, directed by Neil Burger, an important character is Tris. Tris is an important character because of her bravery in overcoming the fears she had, her relationship with Four, and her stopping Jeanine because of her trying to overthrow Abnegation.
Firstly, Tris is important because of her bravery which isn't the absence of fear, but you need the skills to overcome it, which she had. We see Tris being brave in war games and knife throwing. Tris shows bravery by going up on the Ferris wheel and standing up for Al in the knife throwing scene. Neil Burger shows Tris’ bravery on war games with camera shots and dialogues. The high angle shows how vulnerable to falling down when Tris is climbing the ladder. The low angle shows that Tris didn't worry about that she was beaten badly and made her brave to overcome anything. The dialogues made her more authoritative. While going up the Ferris wheel, Tris says: “You’re afraid of heights”. “Everyone’s afraid of something”. “I didn’t think you were afraid of anything”. “Come on Tris. Really? Are you even human?”. Also, Neil Burger made Tris braver in the knife throwing event when Al get in trouble by Eric and Eric says: “Are you afraid?”. “Of getting stabbed with an airborne knife? Yeah”. “If you flinch, you’re out.” Then Tris says: “Anyone can stand in front of a target”. After a few throws Four cut Tris ear and says, “If didn't did that, he wouldn’t let you go”. The full shot showed how she didn't move at all which made her braver which that she didn't get kicks out of Dauntless. This makes Tris important because she is brave and started getting into a relationship with Four.

Secondly, Tris is important because of her relationship with Four and the positive influences. Tris’ relationship with Four has a lot of positive influences of other people. Their relationship saves Tris from Al and how their relationship was at the start. Their relationship at the start wasn't positive and slowly their relationship improved. Neil Burger shows how their relationship is important throw dialogues and camera shots. The close up on tris while Four throws the knife affects the person watching that something bad is going to happen or she might die. And Tris says: “Were you a transfer too? Or Dauntless born? Are you kidding? No. What makes you think you can talk to me?”. This shows how they've relationship was at the start. Throughout the film ‘Divergent’ Tris was almost killed by Al and Tris was saved by Four which started a relationship between them. Through that event Tris finds of that it was Al who tried to kill her because he was scared that Tris was moving up the rank and he thought that he was going get kicked out of dauntless. And when Four is talking to Tris and says: “He's scared. You’re moving up the rank”. This makes Tris important because how they've relationship started and how Four saves Tris from Al.
Lastly, Tris is important because of Tris and Four stopping Jeanine because of her trying to overthrow Abnegation. Tris stopping Jeanine has a huge effect on the film ‘Divergent’ because Tris had to Fight with Four and had to put the serum into Jeanine's neck/head. Neil Burger show why Tris stopping Jeanine had a huge effect on the film ‘Divergent’ also Tris fighting with Four through dialogues and camera shots. In the event Tris fight Four and with the close up on Tris and Fours face shows how their emotions and how they are feeling also Tris didn't want to fight with Four and pointed the gun on her on head instead of Four’s. This is shown when Jeanine says: “He can’t hear you. Amazing, isn’t it? Everything we think of that makes up a person’s, thoughts, emotions, history… All wiped away be chemistry”. Slowly, Tris took Four out of Jeanine's control and fought against Jeanine and her bodyguards which then they told Jeanine to turn off the system and stop the dauntless to kill the people in Abnegation. When Tris told Jeanine to turn off the system she said no and said: “Maybe you’re not quite as Dauntless as you thought”. “You’re right. I’m Divergent”, and then Tris puts the serum into Jeanine's head/neck which ended up Jeanine turning off the system. This makes Tris important because Tris thought of something different instead of killing her and she also stopped Jeanine from overthrowing Abnegation.
In conclusion, Tris is an important character in the film ‘Divergent’, directed by Neil Burger. Tris is an important character because of her bravery, because she stops Jeanine, and because of her relationship with Four.
