What is Turabian Book Citation

  • Author’s first and last name;
  • Book title;
  • Place of publication;
  • Publisher;
  • Year of publication;

Nonetheless, there are differences in the very Turabian style that you would need to know about, as it has recently migrated from the 8th to the 9th edition. Still, when it comes to talking about books, there are basically two changes that you need to know about.

  • When citing a book, you can now repeat the year in the citation that holds information on the month of publication. For example:

That is, an average footnote would now look like:

John Smith, Finding the Citation Service (New York: University of New York Press, 2020), 72.
  • Using “ibid” is no longer required. Well, you may use it, but it is rather not encouraged.

General Rules for Turabian Book Citation

As of now, there are still two editions of the Turabian format there are currently in use in American colleges and universities. Nonetheless, there is one important rule that you must remember.
