Topic: Could Bryan Koberger interest in psychology and criminal justice be to better understand
himself.
Thesis Statement: Kobergers online and real-world history show that he could have been aware
of what he could do and pursuing a path in criminal justice was a way of trying to find himself in
the midst’s of all that was happening.
Topic Sentence for Body Paragraph #1: Kobergers online presence and messages to his friends
gives us an opening into his life prior to college.
Topic Sentence for Body Paragraph #2: Kobergers history with drugs and other activities show
us that he might have had to try and help himself but as well find out that wasn’t the case.
Main Point #1: Brian Kobereger had a big online presence history that he dove really deep
explaining everything he thought about himself and asking questions he was curious about.
A. Supporting Detail: Koberger wrote many posts explaining and degrading how he
felt about himself.
B. Supporting Detail: Koberger asked many questions online about how people felt
when they committed different crimes and other things.
C. Integrated Quote: One of these online questions being for them to, “describe their
thoughts, emotions and actions,” from the start of their crimes until they had been
finished with them” (Rachel Sun, et al).
D. Comment about the Quote: This shows us that during his time doing research on
criminals he was more focused on how the felt before during and after them.
E. Supporting Detail: He was reportedly creepy and made many comments to cliques
of people that were demeaning towards them.
Main Point #2: Brian Kobereger had trouble in his past with drugs and bullies which was no
help to his already deflating mental health.
A. Supporting Detail: Koberger was involved in physical activities such as kickboxing.
B. Supporting Detail: Kobereger had a run in with heroin which only made his
thoughts about himself worse.
C. Integrated Quote: Koberger was also teased a lot growing up whether it was
because he had, “been heavier when he was in high school and was bullied over his
weight,” or by his drug friends when he told, “Mr. Kohberger to walk to the private
community’s gates in the snow to get some heroin from him,” when he had no
intension of being there.
D. Comment about the Quote: This allows us to see that alongside his activities to deal
with anger management he was also bullied or easily pushed over by most people.
E. Supporting Detail: Once Koberger and his friend were driving in a private
community evading the security knowing they were gonna get caught no matter what.
