This means they don't actively regulate their osmotic pressure, which is the pressure that prevents water from diffusing across a semipermeable membrane. What are Osmoconformers? Osmoconformers are marine animals that have adapted to living in saltwater environments by allowing their body fluids to match the salinity of the surrounding water. This means they maintain an osmotic pressure that is similar to seawater, unlike osmoregulators that actively regulate their internal osmotic pressure. Osmoconformers don't have to expend energy to maintain their osmotic balance. This makes it a more energy-efficient strategy for survival, especially for organisms living in stable environments where salinity doesn't fluctuate drastically. Advantages of Osmoconformation Energy Efficiency It does not require the organism to expend energy to regulate its osmotic pressure, conserving energy for other life functions. Stability in Stable Environments This strategy is well-suited for marine environments where salinity remains relatively constant, providing a stable internal environment.
