SKELETAL OUTLINE OF SUPPLEMENTAL READING #3 “In Search of Global Leaders” A) What are the Learning Objectives in Supplemental Reading 3? (what do you think you were meant to learn? 1. Understand what skills and qualities to make people become strong leaders 2. Understand how to work in global business 3. Understand some critical factors to develop global capabilities B) Examine the reading 1. Explain how the theory in Supplemental Reading 3 works. a) Stephen Green – employers tend to recruit more people from different countries to make the workplace more international. By that, employees can share their experience with others, and they can be a team to work as a representative of the geographic spread of their business. b) Fred Hassan – employees should have a global attitude but do not lose their points of view. Being themselves, showing interest and openness, and accepting good ideas from other co-workers are strategies to achieve the heart of a global attitude. c) Jeffrey - a global company does:  Global sales company  Global products company  Global people company d) Michael Marks – The good decision-makers are people who truly listen and understand everyone’s opinions. It also means that they should not be biased to anyone’s thinking. Moreover, when running a global business, they need to learn how different countries are governed and cultured. e) Daniel Meiland – Being a global mindset, being open-minded, and learning about other cultures is essential for one’s career and enrich their experience. 2. What information did you find the most useful? List here I found the global mindset is the most useful one because it gives me an overview of the problems/issues in ordinary life and business. Furthermore, the world is getting increasingly connected, and most of the companies are global expansions and global ambition. So, they are looking for people who can work with somebody from different cultural backgrounds or regulatory backgrounds. 3. What information did you find the least useful and why? List here I found the global mind is the least useful. The major drawback is hard to maintain global objectives because of the intense focus on global tradition. C) What questions do you have about Supplemental Reading 3? How to control the organizational culture and conflict management assessment? D) If you were the instructor, what questions would you ask the class about Supplemental Reading 3? What answers would you be looking for? What are the advantages and disadvantages of globalization? 1. Advantages  Cheaper goods and services for consumers  More competition in consumer markets  Reduction in unemployment rates 2.
