Teenage Reproductive Health Definition of Teenagers According to the World Health Organization (WHO), adolescents are residents in the age range of 10-19 years, according to the Indonesian Health Regulation Number 25 of 2014, adolescents are residents in the age range of 10-18 years and according to the Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) the age range of adolescents is 10-24 years and unmarried. An adolescent is someone who grows into adulthood including mental, social emotional and physical maturity. Where adolescents have a great sense of curiosity and are undergoing a developmental process in preparation for entering adulthood. Characteristics Of Adolescents 1. Experiencing secondary sexual signs until reproductive maturity. 2. Experiencing physical and behavioral changes in accordance with gender. 3. Starting to feel, control, and also direct sexual urges. 4. Changes in values that are considered important and not important. 5. Often think abstractly, but can return to concrete thinking when under pressure. 6. Experiences brain development of social and problem-solving skills. 7. A desire for independence and a sense of freedom. 8. Desire to try new things and tend to take more risks. 9. Rapid emotional changes. 10. Beginning to understand how their actions and decisions affect the future. Basic Concepts of Adolescent Reproductive Health Reproductive health is the physical, mental, and social well-being as a whole in all matters related to the reproductive system, functions, and processes and not just a condition free from disease and disability. The scope of reproductive health services according to the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo consists of maternal and child health, family planning, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS adolescent reproductive health, prevention and treatment of abortion complications, prevention and treatment of infertility elderly reproductive health, early detection of reproductive tract and other reproductive health such as sexual violence, female circumcision and so on. Everyone should be able to have a sexual life that is satisfying and safe for themselves, as well as be able to reduce and fulfill their desires without any obstacles, when, and how often to have offspring. Everyone has the right to regulate the size of their family, including obtaining a complete explanation of contraceptive methods so that they can choose the right and preferred method. In addition, the right to obtain other reproductive health services, such as antenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care and services for children and adolescent health also needs to be guaranteed. Adolescent Reproductive Rights Every adolescent has a number of reproductive health rights, such as: The right to be free from the risk of death, sexually transmitted infections, HIV & AIDS and death due to child pregnancy; the right not to be coerced and not to experience violence by anyone in living a sexual and reproductive life (for example forced to have sexual intercourse and forced to marry); the right to be free from all forms of discrimination, based on sex, gender, religion, ethnicity including in obtaining reproductive health services; the right not to be forced to marry at a child's age by anyone; and have the right to be free from persecution and illtreatment from anyone including being free from trafficking, sexual exploitation and abuse. The Urgency of Adolescent Reproductive Knowledge Knowledge about reproductive health is basic knowledge that must be understood by adolescents. Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood. This means that physically adolescents can reproduce, but psychologically, socially, and economically they are not ready to have children and build a family. Therefore, knowledge about reproductive health is important for them. Adolescents who are more aware of the importance of maintaining reproductive health are less likely to experience pregnancy at an early age. As we know, teenage pregnancy is at risk of giving birth to premature babies and low birth weight (LBW), which is closely related to the risk of stunting.
