THE NEW EDUCATIONAL REALITY OF THE CANARY ISLANDS: MISCELLANEOUSNESS IN THE CLASSROOMS. EVOLUTION AND ORIGINS OF FOREIGN SCHOOLS Foreign immigration has become increasingly important to Canary Islands society since the mid-1990s. Studies on this issue have increased in their most different angles of study since the entry of this people has entailed major modifications in the life of the Archipelago. One of them brings together educators, pedagogues, sociologists, and school administrators. We are speaking of the large-scale phenomena of international students attending Canary Islands schools, which compels the creation of new instructional protocols. The initiatives created to help these children integrate go beyond the walls of the schools; they serve as a tool for social intervention that helps create new kinds of cohabitation. By highlighting the tendencies in this group's progress and, therefore, that of the pupils in the Canary Islands, this presentation aims to bring the audience closer to this reality. However, as this situation dictates action strategies tailored to the cultural frameworks of reference, we also attempt to study the variations in the students' places of origin. Understanding the origin is important since it influences a variety of factors, including the student's mother language, religious beliefs, family dynamics, experiences in the sometimes violent society of origin, and more. These elements unquestionably influence the student's integration and support the assimilation of their family into our culture. The General Directorate of Centers of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands provides the information that will enable us to prepare this communication. This information, which varies in detail, separates the group of foreign students enrolled in the non-university education centers throughout the Archipelago from the entire student body in the Canary Islands. A specialist bibliography and data from the Canarian Institute of Statistics and the National Institute of Statistics have also been consulted. This talk is a component of the work being done by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria's Economic and Social Geography Research Group, which has been doing several studies about immigration in the Canary Islands.
