BASIC CONCEPT OF STUDENT ATTENDANCE A. Student Attendance Student attendance at school is usually referred to as student attendance. The definition of student attendance has two meanings, namely the problem of school attendance (school attendance) which is called presence and absence from school (nonschool attendance) which is called absenteeism. The presence and absence of students at school are considered important problems in student management at school, because this is very closely related to student learning achievement. Student Attendance Recap Attendance recap is an activity to summarize attendance data so that it becomes more useful in form, structure, nature, or content with the help of manual labor or the help of equipment and following a series of steps, formulas, or certain patterns. Administratively, the management of attendance and absence at the class level is the responsibility of the homeroom teacher. Therefore, the homeroom teacher should be able to accurately record the level of attendance and absence of students in the class under his/her responsibility and at the same time be able to analyze and present it in the form of graphs or tables (it is advisable to have daily notes and monthly tables or graphs available). Meanwhile, at the school level, the right officer to manage student attendance and absence is the vice principal for student affairs. Similar to homeroom teachers, the vice principal for student affairs should also be able to accurately record the level of student attendance and absence as a whole and be able to analyze and present it in the form of graphs or tables. Information on the level of student attendance and absence is very useful for policy making, both at the class and school levels and can be used for the purpose of providing guidance to students who have difficulty in fulfilling their attendance obligations at school. Recapitulation of student absence data individually, whether due to reasons of negligence, illness or permission, should be submitted to parents, at least every month. This is important to do so that parents can know about it and can take part in efforts to prevent and overcome the problem of their children's absence. For schools that already have their own websites, presenting a recapitulation of monthly student attendance and absence data on the school website (while maintaining students' privacy rights) may be very useful. In addition to being a form of open reporting on school progress, it may also motivate students and other related parties to better maintain and improve student attendance at school. Another thing that is no less important in managing student attendance is the need for clear and firm absence rules, accompanied by educational sanctions (especially for students who are often absent). However, it is not expected that there will be a form of sanction that explicitly states that students who are often absent must meet with the BK teacher (Counselor). If this happens, directly or indirectly, Guidance and Counseling will be perceived by students as "the school's security guard", which of course will not be beneficial for the development of BK services as a psychological assistance service institution in schools.
