PRINCIPLES, OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF STUDENT MANAGEMENT A. Principles of Student Management According to Taqwa (2016:52-53) The principles of student management mean that in order to manage students, the principles mentioned below must always be upheld and followed. The principles of student management are as follows: 1) Student management is seen as part of the overall school management. Therefore, it must have the same goals and/or support the overall management goals. The sectoral ambitions of student management remain within the framework of school management. It should not be placed outside the school management system. 2) All forms of student management activities must carry out the mission of education and in order to educate students. All forms of activities, whether light, heavy, liked or disliked by students, must be directed to educating students and not for anything else. 3) Student management activities must be attempted to unite students who have diverse backgrounds and have many differences. The differences that exist in students are not directed towards the emergence of conflict between them but rather unite and understand and respect each other. 4) Student management activities must be seen as an effort to regulate student guidance. Therefore, guidance must be available from the party being guided. Namely the students themselves. It is impossible for such guidance to be carried out well when there is reluctance from the students themselves. 5) Student management activities must encourage and spur student independence. The principle of independence will be beneficial for students not only when they are at school, but also when they have entered society. This means that student dependence must be gradually eliminated through student management activities. 6) What is given to students and what is always attempted by student management activities must be functional for the lives of students both at school and especially in the future. B. Student Management Approach According to Rifa'I, Muhammad (2018:3-4) the approach to student management carried out to achieve the goals and functions of student management is as follows: 1) Quantitative Approach. This approach focuses more on the administrative and bureaucratic aspects of educational institutions. In this approach, students are expected to be able to meet the demands and expectations of the educational institution where the students are located. The manifestation of this approach in operational student management is by requiring absolute attendance for students at school, tightening attendance, demanding high discipline, and completing the tasks given, so that students are expected to be able. 2) Qualitative Approach. Compared to the quantitative approach which aims to make students able, this approach aims to make students happy and prosperous. The assumption of this approach is that if students are happy and prosperous, then they can learn well, besides that they will also be happy to develop themselves in the educational institution where they are located. This approach also emphasizes the need to provide a conducive and pleasant climate for optimal self-development. 3) Integrated approach. This approach is a combination of the two approaches above, in this approach students are asked to fulfill bureaucratic and administrative demands at school and the school also offers other incentives that can fulfill the needs and welfare of students, for example students are asked to complete difficult tasks given by the educational institution, and the educational institution provides a conducive climate for completing these tasks. C. Scope of Student Management According to Ibid (Annas, Annisa Nuraisyah, 2017:136-137) the scope of students is as follows: a) Student planning, the first step that must be taken in student management is to make a plan. Students must be planned because with planning everything can be thought through carefully. b) Acceptance of new students, acceptance of new students is one of the most important student management activities. Acceptance of new students includes several stages, namely: Student admission policy, Student admission system, Criteria for accepting new students, Procedures for accepting new students, Problems of accepting new students. c) Student orientation, including arrangements: the first days of students at school, student orientation week, approaches used in student orientation, and student orientation. Reasons and limitations of student orientation, Goals and functions of student orientation, First days at school, Role of student orientation d) Managing student attendance and absence, student attendance at school is very important, because if students are not present at school, then learning activities at school cannot be carried out properly. The presence of students at school is a condition that allows for learning and teaching interactions in the learning process. e) Grouping students, managing student grouping, both based on the function of similarities, and those based on the function of differences. f) Managing student learning outcome evaluation, managing student evaluation, both in order to improve the teaching and learning process, guidance and counseling and for the benefit of student promotion. In education, evaluation is very much needed to find out whether a system in education is good or bad so that later it can be a reference in carrying out development or improvement. g) Regulating student level increases, class increases can be regulated according to the policies of each school. In class increases, problems often occur that require wise resolution. This problem can be minimized if data on student evaluation results are assessed objectively and use the functions as they should, teachers must also be more careful in giving evaluation results to their students. h) Regulating students who transfer and drop out, transfers and drop out are problems that often occur in the world of education. Therefore, both must be handled properly, so as not to cause new problems, which will ultimately disrupt activities in education.
