Guidance and Counseling Objectives for Students According to Rochman Natawidjaja (2007:464) Guidance and counseling aims to help students have the ability to develop their potential, or internalize the values contained in the developmental tasks that they must master. The ability to internalize includes three stages, including: (1) understanding (awareness), (2) attitude (accommodation), and skills or actions (action) (Syafaruddin, et al. 2019: 18). Then according to Ahman (Rochman Natawidjaja, 2007:231) emphasized that the objectives of providing guidance and counseling services are: 1) Helping students develop self-understanding, according to their abilities, interests, learning outcomes and existing opportunities. 2) Helping students undergo the process of socialization and personalization of values and developing sensitivity to the needs and circumstances of others. 3) Helping students develop intrinsic motives in learning so that meaningful teaching goals are achieved. 4) Cultivate the drive to direct oneself, solve problems, determine choices and decisions, involve oneself in the education process. 5) Help students develop attitudes and values that lead to the formation of personal integrity. 6) Help students understand the behavior of others. 7) Help students gain personal satisfaction in adjusting to society (Syafaruddin, et al. 2019: 18). There are also general objectives, which are explained in the book by Syafaruddin, et al. (2019: 18) according to Dewa Ketut Sukardi (2010) explaining that the purpose of organizing guidance and counseling services is an effort to help students find their personality, in terms of recognizing their strengths and weaknesses and accepting themselves positively and dynamically as capital for further self-development. Meanwhile, Syafaruddin, et al. (2019: 18-19) also explain the specific objectives of guidance and counseling in schools from Wardati, et al. (2011) are so that students can: 1) Develop their full potential as optimally as possible. 2) Overcome difficulties in understanding themselves. 3) Overcome difficulties in understanding their environment. 4) Overcome difficulties and identify and solve their problems. 5) Overcome difficulties in channeling their abilities, interests, and talents in the fields of education and work. 6) Obtain appropriate assistance from parties outside the school to overcome difficulties that cannot be solved at the school. Guidance and counseling also aims to help students achieve optimal development tasks as God's creatures, socially, and personally. Among them are helping individuals achieve: 1) Personal happiness as God's creatures; 2) A productive and effective life in society; 3) Living together with other individuals; 4) Harmony between their ideals and their abilities. So if seen from the explanation above, it can be said that the main purpose of conducting and holding guidance and counseling in schools is to help and direct students in developing their abilities and adjusting themselves to be in accordance with the hopes/ideals of the nation.
