Role of Guidance and Counseling for Students The role of guidance and counseling for students is as a place of assistance that provides direction in carrying out development in accordance with their potential, talents and interests. And the role of guidance and counseling teachers for students, namely a) As a learning or guidance planner. b) As an implementer of learning and guidance. c) As an assessor of student learning and guidance outcomes. d) As a facilitator and also a guide for student development. B. Function of Guidance and Counseling for Students According to Dewa Ketut Sukardi (2010) in the book Basics of Guidance and Counseling: Review of Concepts, Theories and Practices by Syafaruddin, et al. (2019: 19) the functions of Guidance and Counseling for students, namely: a) Understanding function, namely the function of guidance and counseling that will produce an understanding of something that is in accordance with the interests of student development, this understanding includes: • Understanding of the student's self. • Understanding of the student's environment, namely the family and school environment. • Understanding of the "broader" environment, namely related to educational information, job/work information, and social, cultural information/values needed by students (Syafaruddin, et al. 2019:19). b) Prevention function, namely the guidance and counseling function that will help prevent or avoid students from various problems that may arise, which will interfere, hinder, or cause certain difficulties and losses in the development process. c) Testing function, namely the guidance and counseling function as an effort to overcome various problems experienced by students. d) Maintenance and development function, namely the guidance and counseling function that will help maintain and encourage the development of various positive potentials of students in order to develop themselves steadily and sustainably (Syafaruddin, et al. 2019: 20). Then Ahman (Rochman Natawidjaja, 2007: 231) put forward several functions of guidance and counseling in the implementation process, including: a) Understanding function, namely understanding the character of students b) Development function, namely the function of helping students develop their skills and abilities through various opportunities obtained in a reasonable, realistic and normative manner. c) Prevention function, namely preventing individuals from unwanted developments or things. d) Healing function, namely helping to solve problems faced and develop the ability to solve subsequent problems. e) Adjustment function, namely helping individuals to obtain healthy personal adjustments, so that they can live in harmony between themselves and their environment. f) Adaptation function, namely the function of adjusting the activity program to the individual's abilities and conditions. g) Distribution function, namely the function of helping individuals in choosing fields of education and work that are in accordance with the individual's potential and needs (Syafaruddin, et al. 2019: 20). The explanation related to the function of guidance and counseling above refers to activities to help provide understanding, prevention, development, healing, distribution, adjustment and adaptation for individuals so that they can know, improve and realize their potential. So for the role of guidance and counseling itself when viewed from the function is as a container/place to get services according to the function, as a motivator and facilitator in handling matters related to individual personality. 7. Principle or Principle of dynamism, which requires that the content of services should always move forward, not be monotonous, and continue to develop and be sustainable in accordance with the integrity and stage of its development from time to time.
