Description of Procedure
imaging technique. This includes x-rays, gamma rays, and ionizing and nonionizing radiation.
This allows us to get an internal pictures of different structures inthe body, to allow us to
identify abnormalities to diagnos and treat a patient.

-broken bones
-fractures
-infections
-cancers
-osteoporosis
-blocked blood vessel
-arthritis
-pregnancy
-inflammation
-blood clots
-dental issues
Interpretation of Findings
Once the radiographer gathers all the
pictures ordered to be taken, they turn it over
to the doctor, or a radigrapher who reads
these results. Once the results are read and
the doctor has determined the plan of care
they will share the results with the patient,
and then go about the plan of care for the
new found diagnosis.
Potential Complications
-nausea
-lightheadedness
-hives
-rash
-headache
-metallic like taste in the mouth
-allergic reactions to some of the dyes used
-hot flashes/ feeling of warmth r/t injections
-low blood sugars r/t the dyes
-severe allerigc reactions to the dyes can also result in
cardiac arrest.
CONSIDERATIONS
Nursing Interventions (pre, intra, post)
-check patient for pain and treat pain prior to going
-educate patient about the proceedure and what to expect
-make sure the patient does not have any questions
-check patients allergies in the chart and pass along any important information.
-watch for orders, such as NPO when patient is expected to go to a test.
-ensure you have an assessment of your patient so you are aware of any changes wit
hthe patient when they return.
-have patient cleaned up and ready to go to test to make ttrasfer easy and quick for the
patient and other staff.
-ensure any consents needed are completed by the patient and doctor prior to going
Client Education
-teach them What to expect at the procedure and what is
being done for
-any and all risk factors included with this test/procedure
-what time they will be going and how they are to get there.
-if NPO they may not eat anything prior to going, typically
starting at midnight the night before the procedure.
-tell the dr of any allergies or issues in the past.
Nursing Interventions
-ensure IV is intact, clean, and flushable for use while at testing.
-Education patient on risk factors and expect out comes of there
procedure
-Teach patient about the procedure and what to expect to calm
nerves.
-Asses patient prior to going to testing to monitor any changes
when returning.
-Gather patient history and allergies
-share all important information with provider prior to patient going
to procedure.
-if patient is NPO make sure that holds true until the test is done
and the dr. orders patient a diet to start eating again.
