The conflict between Elenita and her mother is that they disagree over what Elenita chooses to wear and how she styles her hair. 2. What is Jorge's internal conflict? Jorge’s internal conflict is that he struggles with his self-image as a result of his “lower middle-class status,” compared to Maria Elena’s rich family. 3. How does Maria Elena surprise Elenita? What might be her purpose? Maria Elena surprises Elenita by conceding, and allowing Elenita to do as she wished. Her purpose might be to give Elenita the freedom she has been longing for. 4. Which scene in the story is symbolic of Elenita's conflict? The scene in which Elenita is looking through her closet trying to compromise between the outfit she wants to wear and the outfit her mom wants her to wear is symbolic of Elenita’s conflict. 5. Describe how the aesthetic impact of the story is developed. The aesthetic impact of the story is developed through the use of Elenita’s realizations about herself. In one or two sentences, write down the gist, or main point, of this study. The main point of this study is to understand conflict as well as the aesthetic impact of a story.
