This increases levels of bradykinin which causes vasodilation and exerction of water and salt Therapeutic Use - hypertension - heart failure - myocardial infarction - diabetic and non diabetic nephropathy Complications - fisrt dose: orthostatic hypertension - cough - hyperkalemia - rash / altered taste Contraindications/Precautions - hx of angioedema / allergy to ACE inhibitors - pregnancy risk D in 2 - 3 trimester Medication Administration - oral - start wiht low dose to monitor effect - at least 1hr before meals (captoril only) Nursing Interventions - monitor BP for first 2 hrs after 1st administration - monitor lithium levels Interactions - diuretics - other antihypertensive medications can have addictive effect - ACE can increase levels of lithium Client Education Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness - notify HCP if dry cough / rash - rise slowly from sitting to standing - therapeutic effect is achieved - no reaction from medication - BP is WDL ACTIVE LEARNING TEMPLATES Therapeutic Procedure A7
