Basic Components of Worldview Date: 10/22/2020 Be sure you answer both Part 1 and Part 2 of this assignment before submitting. Part 1: Core Worldview Beliefs Based on the basic components of worldview presented in Chapter 2 and the topic overview, write a response to each of the six questions that form the basic components of your own core worldview beliefs. Respond to the questions about your own beliefs in your own words, and not necessarily what you think the Christian worldview believes. Keep this document intact and only add your answers in the box under each question. 1. What is your belief about the nature of ultimate reality? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe that there is an existence beyond this physical world. I believe there is one God, and he is good. I also believe there is good and evil that exist beyond this physical world. I believe this because this is what has been taught to me and this is what I read in the bible. 2. What is your belief about the nature of the universe? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe that the universe is open to a spiritual influence. I believe this because I believe there is a God and I believe he does interact with human affairs because he has interacted with me and I have heard the testimonies of others and seen the transformation in myself and in others. 3. What is your belief about human nature and the afterlife? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe in God, so I believe in life after death. I believe that if I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior and I accept him in my life that I will live an eternal life with God. If live by his word, ask for forgiveness of my sins he will love and accept me. I believe this because this is what I have been taught. 4. What are the three worldview (atheism, pantheism, theism) beliefs about the nature of knowledge? Which one best fits your belief? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: Atheism- do not believe in a spiritual or supernatural realm, Pantheism- believe all is God but not a personal God, Theism- believes in a personal and relational God. Theism relates to me because I have personal relationship with God, I believe he has changed my heart and he has interacted with me. 5. What is your basis for determining moral right from moral wrong? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I have always believed in right and wrong, but I had nothing to go from but what my parents taught me. I also have done wrong things but felt it was right at the time but later got guilt and regret from my actions. My journey with God began about a year ago and since I have been reading the bible and learning what is wrong and right through him, I now try to live by his word. 6. What is your belief about human purpose? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe we exist because God created us. One thing for sure no matter what direction my life has gone, I have always believed that. I believe our purpose is to serve God, live by his word, love the world as he does, and spread his word to others. I believe this because I read “Purpose Driven Life” and I believe the book; it changed my life. Part 2: Evaluation 1. Your answers to the questions in Part 1 form the basis of your worldview. Now that you have articulated your worldview, evaluate it according to the practical test described in Chapter 2 of the textbook and the topic overview. Which of the three worldviews most closely matches your core beliefs as you answered in Part 1? Does your worldview pass the practical test for livability? Why or why not? Provide a clear explanation of the workability and practical value in the most important areas of life and experience. Your answer in 200-300 words: The world view that matches my beliefs is theism. I believe in God and I believe he created all that exist. Yes, my worldview passes the particle test for liability. This worldview does bring personal satisfactions because it has given me hope to live a better life and I can live a better life. This new hope and belief that God is working for me has opened doors to beyond my wildest dreams. I believe one can live a practically in culture because the word of God says to love others, give direction from what is wrong and right, and to trust in him that he will do all things right if I just trust and believe in him. God gave people free will and so no one does not have live in the same culture. Real life situations at one point has challenged my beliefs but I have learned hand these challenging situations over to God. I believe and trust that he will guide. From my experience in the past when I would handle challenging situations without the God’s guidance, they would turn more disasters. Now that have accepted these beliefs in my life, and I turn to God I feel I can get passed the challenges life brings me. 2. Reflect on your current understanding of the Christian faith. In other words, what is the essence of the Christian worldview? How does one become a Christian? Your response will need to articulate your understanding of Christian beliefs and does not require you to believe it. Your answer in 200-300 words: My understanding of the Christain faith offers a new way thinking, seeing, and doing things differently on a new way of being. From my understanding Christain faith offers a meaning and a purpose to life's big question “what am I doing here”? Christian worldview gives us a sense of what God’s purpose is for us, gives us a way to think about what is right or wrong, and an understanding of history. In addition, Christain worldview has a simple way of seeing life and meaning of purpose with all aspects of life. In Christain worldview they live for the glory of God and the Holy Spirit. From my experience when I became a Christian the process was simple. My understanding is that first, a person confesses Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, that he was crucified and died on the cross for our sins, and that he was resurrected for enteral life with God. Then a person must invite Jesus and God into their life and into their heart. When this is done then the Christian faith believes that the person is reborn and redeemed. Then one should find a bible study church and study the bible so they can learn, live, and spread God’s word.
