Describe 3 concepts that improved, adjusted, or clarified your knowledge of the Bible. 1. The first one that improved my knowledge of the bible was this quote “As we mentioned in chapter 3, the Greek word for gospel (euangelion) means “good news.” Paul defined the gospel of Jesus Christ in 1 Cor 15:1–4: “Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand and by which you are being saved, if you hold to the message I preached to you—unless you believed in vain (Cartwright, pg. 216)”. This wasn’t the whole quote but basically what I learned from this is that God will always be there for me and anyone who believes in him. Along the way while I read the textbook I learn some Greek words as well that I did not know before. 2. Another concept that clarified knowledge of the bible was “Don't Miss the Forest for the Trees (Cartwright, pg.221).” I feel this concept really helped clarify the bible for me a little bit better. To me this means don't take everything for granted and that's what the bible shows you. 3. “The New Testament epistles were all written during the time of the church (Cartwright, pg. 228).”Whenever the bible is talked about at least with my nana or papa, we only ever talk about the chapters we hear about in either CDC (when I was little) or when I went to Catholic school. I actually didn't know a lot about the epistles or that it was a chapter/story until reading the textbook so this was new for me. From your reading in Everyday Bible Study, explain 2 ideas that you believe are crucial to remember when studying the various genres of the Bible and why these two ideas are crucial. 1. One crucial idea when studying the bible is for instance in Acts, “Identify the basic story structure. Ascertain where your story fits into the full narrative of Acts and the start of the early church. Identify the setÝng, characters, and actions of the story (Cartwright, 223).” I would say this is important when studying the Bible because you want to be able to remember characters, setÝngs from each story. If you organize everything and read it everyday it would be easier to remember. 2. Another crucial idea to studying the bible is “ Finally, once you have discovered principles that can be applied today, it is always helpful to explore where else these ideas can be found in Scripture (Cartwright, pg. 225).” A lot of what we find in scripture is guaranteed to be in other places of the bible. We just have to search for what were looking for. The bible is by no means easy to study but nothing really is unless you take the time to really read it. From your reading in Everyday Bible Study, show 1 way that understanding the various genres of the Bible could aid in Bible study. 1. I think one way to show understanding in the various of the genres to help with studying the bible is having goals. This would be in “The Question of Goals (Cartwright, pg. 187)”. If the principle behind each of these commands involves either the horizontal or vertical relationships of life (relationship to God or relationship to others), then how do I invest the energy of my life to impact these two relational areas? In other words, how does this principle help me determine the causes and efforts I will be involved in because it helps my relationship with God and with others to grow and flourish? (Cartwright, 187).” Set goals when studying all genres of the bible to help you study it.
