Communication The main drawbacks of oral communication are: - The risk of inaccuracy and/or incompleteness of the information. - The risk of misunderstanding due to insufficient standardization of the form in which the information is given. - The danger that something will be misremembered or completely forgotten. - The lack of the possibility to refer directly to the original information at a later time to provide accountability and to exercise control or to resolve or explain differences or disputes. If there is a chance that one or more of these circumstances may occur, it is desirable to provide the relevant data as information in one way or another to capture and preferably according to a fixed one systematic that until correctness and completeness which simplifes recording and facilitates consultation. Types of information and types of information management systems Brevoord was one of the first Dutch authors to point out with regard to companies that a distinction can be made between process information, which managerial and executive officers need for the daily performance of their duties, and project information, which management officials need to make decisions in connection with the necessary renewal of the company's activities or to keep them up to date. Therefore, the need for process information has a continuous character and project information is more incidental in nature. In addition, the information needs of internal officials should also take into account the legitimate information needs of third parties, such as trade organizations, government, etc. This will be on- administrative information named. With regard to information we can distinguish a number of types, namely. - Formalized (standard) vs. non-formalized (coincidental*) information. Information that meets - ongoing (AO) versus incidental information needs. Information intended for forming a judgment - versus information not intended as a basis for a judgment (communication information -> for the functioning of business processes). - Information that is distinguished by level of use (strategic, operational and executive). - Process information (needed for daily output) versus project information (needed for making decisions regarding business activities). - Managerial information (mainly intemal) versus non-managerial information (mainly exteral). Logistics information systems (L/S)provide information aimed at planning. guiding and controlling logistics processes, i.e. chains of successive concrete actions relating to personnel, materials, services and facilities. Management information systems (M/S) then provide information aimed at 'planning' and "control of the entire course of events at respect of the company, both in terms of its normal day-to-day operations and its dynamic development.
