‭ ramework for the development of information provision‬ F ‭The acquisition of an administrative information system is part of the development of the‬ ‭total information provision within an organization. Such development is a continuous‬ ‭process of innovation that must be coordinated (planning and control) and monitored.‬ ‭As a conceptual framework for the treatment in this chapter, the following phases can be‬ ‭distinguished (shown schematically in the figure below).‬ ‭ chedule‬‭: an organization will have to (periodically) determine, develop and record the‬ S ‭information policy to be followed, whereby it determines, among other things, the objectives‬ ‭that it wishes to achieve with the information provision as a whole, as well as the opportunities‬ ‭and bottlenecks that arise. The total information provision is then divided into (relatively‬ ‭independent) sub-areas.‬ ‭ cquisition‬‭(multiple processes): after determining that an automated information‬ A ‭system can offer a solution, an adequate information system is obtained by:‬ ‭-‬ ‭Designing and building an application (customization) (development); or‬ ‭-‬ ‭Selecting and purchasing standard software (a standard package) (purchase); or‬ ‭A‬ ‭-‬ ‭c ombination of the above methods.‬ I‭ntroduction‬‭(multiple processes): when an adequate automated information system has been‬ ‭obtained, embedding in the organization is necessary. Embedding comes down to realizing‬ ‭the elements mentioned in the opening words of this paragraph in the organization.‬ ‭ se‬ ‭and‬ ‭maintenance‬‭(multiple‬ ‭processes):‬ ‭an‬ ‭information‬ ‭system‬ ‭must‬ ‭provide‬ U ‭support‬‭to‬‭the‬‭business‬‭processes‬‭of‬‭an‬‭organization.‬‭Since‬‭business‬‭processes‬‭can‬ ‭change,‬ ‭the‬ ‭requirements‬ ‭imposed‬ ‭on‬ ‭the‬ ‭information‬ ‭system‬ ‭will‬ ‭also‬ ‭change.‬ ‭Maintenance‬ ‭(adjustment‬ ‭and‬ ‭expansion)‬ ‭of‬ ‭the‬ ‭information‬ ‭system‬ ‭during‬ ‭use‬ ‭is‬ ‭therefore evident.‬ ‭ ismantling‬‭(multiple processes): in this phase the use of the information system is‬ D ‭terminated. Reasons for this may be of a technical nature (e.g. obsolescence) or‬ ‭of an organizational nature (e.g. excessive maintenance backlog or radical‬ ‭c hanges in the supported business processes).‬ ‭ ontrol and monitoring‬‭(permanent): to determine the priorities between the sub-areas‬ C ‭and to monitor the quality, lead time and costs of the individual sub-areas, permanent‬ ‭management and monitoring is necessary.‬ ‭ evelopment methods‬ D ‭Under onemethod we understand the way of working and approach. Techniques can‬ ‭therefore be regarded as a detail of the method. Within the scope of this book it is‬ ‭impossible to provide a complete overview of the available methods and techniques. It‬ ‭will therefore suffice here to describe a number of trends within these methods and a‬ ‭number of examples to provide a picture. Before starting with these descriptions, the‬ ‭framework described in the previous paragraph will be discussed in more detail,‬ ‭whereby the phases to be completed will be further elaborated.‬
