That's why to give their optimum they should avoid even miner mistake of the use of auxiliary verbs in their sentences spoken anywhere or in any type of competition. Here are some examples ofsentences in which the students commit mjstakes in the use of auxiliary verbs(1) The quality of the apples is not good. (Verb agrees with the abstract noun 'quality') (2)Gold and silver are precious metals. (Conjunction 'and' means for two plurals) (З)Му friend and benefactor has come. (Here 'and' shows the quality of friend means here friend & benefactor, Ъаs' use for singular) lf article 'the' is there before 2 nd noun then verb will Ье 'have'. (4)The house, with its contents, was insured. (Here verb agrees with the noun 'house' as the contents are parenthetical information about bouse) (S)Our happiness or our sorrow is due to our own actions. (Here 'or' separates the nouns so verb is singular) (б)Neither the chairman nor the director lias соте. (While using the compound conjunctions - either-or, neither-nor, not only, but also, the verb agrees with the second noun) (7)Не asked me whether either of the applicants was suitaЫe. (Indefinite pronouns - either, neither, по one, по body, takes singular auxiliary verbs) Other examples: Each of these substances is found in India. i) Every one ofthe boys loves to ride. ii) iii) Every Ьоу and every girl was given а packet of sweets. (8) Exception: i) None are as deafas those who will not hear. (lnspite of having indefinite pronoun it takes plural verbs) None of these words are now currently used. ii)
