Speaker 1 (Government team - Prime Minister)
Good afternoon to the respected speakers, honorable judge, members of the opposite team and
members of the floor. Before we put forward our case today I would like to define today’s motion
‘This house would ban teachers from interacting with students via social networking sites’. I
would like to specify what I’m talking about, number one, to ban is to prohibit, second, social
networking sites (SNS) according to Techopedia.com, are online platforms that allow users to
create a public profile and interact with other users on a social networking website. Given these
definitions, we would like to offer the terms of the motion presented; 1. Students should only be
able to contact their teachers/professors only through University email, 2. Students should not
be allowed to contact their teachers/professors through their social network account, 3.
Teachers should not accept friend requests from their current students.
Today, I as the Prime Minister will be the 1
st
speaker of the government and will present
1 argument. Today, again, we the government strongly believes with the motion ‘This house
would ban teachers from interacting with students via social networking sites’.
Ladies and gentlemen / members of the hall,
First of all why we agree with the motion ‘This house would ban teachers from interacting with
students via social networking sites’ is because, according to Frank Hart, an Italian psychiatrist,
communicating through social networking sites can potentially provide teachers and students
direct,
and
unsupervised
could
lead
contact
beyond
the
classroom,
which
poses
risks
to misconduct. Another article, from North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional
High School District says that school email account is monitored. Communication between
teachers and their students become more transparent when there is an official means of
communication for school-related work and that channel is open for monitoring. Therefore, as a
conclusion, we the government strongly agree that students should only use their University
email for consulting and contacting their teachers/professors.
Thank you, now I pass to the next speaker.
