Is our state effective in preventing distracted driving?
In this lesson, we had an option between two questions: whether or not our state is taking
any action to combat distracted driving; and whether or not public service announcements
(PSAs) help lower the incidence of distracted driving. Does our state have laws against
texting and driving? My point is that Washington passed a law along with many other states
to assist reduce distracted driving. My counterargument, which I will give in my essay, is that
even though Washington did enact this rule, according to the statute, you cannot technically
be stopped or punished for distracted driving unless you commit another infraction.
Because everyone is constantly moving, daily traffic increases on the highways. Nowadays,
instead of how it was in the past, when simply switching the radio station was a significant
distraction, it is all these new technological items being manufactured that have had a
significant influence on society. The greatest distracting activity for motorists in modern
culture seems to be texting while driving. The state of Washington followed the lead of 37
other states because they believed they may have a problem with distracted driving. Of
course, their rule will be different from others in that it requires two infractions before you can
receive a penalty for this one. This applies to all drivers who are texting behind the wheel and
requires you to commit a secondary violation.Even though Washington may have a statute
against driving while distracted, does it actually be applied, and has it even reduced the
number of accidents caused by distracted driving? Look further to learn!
A law prohibiting texting and driving was passed in the state of Washington in 2013. Even
though this law was passed, the fact that it requires two crimes in order to result in
punishment has caused some citizens to wonder whether it is actually effective. Some locals
were concerned that other locals (mainly teens and other young, irresponsible drivers) would
not be accepting of this regulation. Additionally, this might cause some locals to live in
constant fear of others breaking the law, causing an accident, and claiming the lives of
innocent people over a simple text message that might have been delayed. The issue is that
some people want to enact a tougher, better rule, which is understandable, but Washington
is now doing everything they can to combat texting and driving.
One of the 41 states, Washington, has passed legislation making it illegal to send or receive
texts while operating a motor vehicle in that state. By succeeding in having fewer accidents
in the state of Washington, Washington and 41 other states have taken action in bettering
their state. Consequently, this sunny state will be able to have roadways with motorists who
won't hurt their surroundings.I concur that people should have laws that are much stronger,
but Washington is also working to fulfill this desire for locals. My feelings for having this law,
or even one that is more successful, are mutual or much stronger. Personally, I believe that
making a law against texting and driving official is far more extraordinary than doing nothing
at all.
