8-2 Project Two: Feedback and Revision Reflection
Over the course of the past eight weeks in English Composition One, I have learned a lot
about the writing process and how to write, edit, and revise to create a stronger critical analysis
paper. Feedback and revision and the audience were a focus of learning the writing process. I
have done some reflection on these topics. I have learned that revision makes my paper stronger.
I have also learned that knowing my audience helps direct my paper.
The approaches to revision that worked well for me during this course started with the
active reading strategies. I learned that taking notes as I read helped me to stay focused. Creating
an outline for the critical analysis essay made it easier to stay on task, as well as seeing my end
point. Bringing in the large- and small-scale revisions helped move things along smoothly.
Having outside sources evaluate my work allowed me to learn from mistakes I made and allowed
me to give the best possible paper.
The revision strategy that I will take with me into my future courses will be free writing.
The ability to get ideas out of my head and onto paper without the fear of losing my train of
thought allows me to work on skills in the writing process. Peers from class, and different tutors
mentioned this a few times this semester. I noticed that while trying to revise my paper, I
typically lost my train of thought and was easily distracted. I tend to over think and over analyze
my work. By trying to incorporate this into my assignments I feel like I can carry them out more. By grouping information from sources, I can use citations less and show the audience my
thought process. It is not up to me to track down the writer’s sources for the article. In the future,
I will remember that if the readers are interested in that information, they can further investigate
the original article for the sources themselves.
I made the choice to try and keep to an academic tone, and semi-formal style with an
informative and persuasive point of view. This keeps my writing focused and professional.
Knowing that I will always be learning means that future instructors and employers are potential
audiences for me. This means that I need to keep a professional tone in most of my writing.
There are many questions to ask to help me connect my writing to future audiences. Some of the
questions are
