Milestone One I am grateful for this opportunity to be able to plan out the network design for the new office in Fayetteville, NC. For this project I have researched some great options that would be a great benefit for the company. For the first part of the key considerations, we would need to have access to fiber internet for fast and reliable connection to the home office in Albany. Next, we would need to have data transmission in full duplex to have full use of the network in both the home office and Fayetteville. OSI model is important when it comes to the strength of how well the network will function. With the layout we are going to use it will follow the OSI model to the key for best results. For this new office we would need to good managed switch to be able to program any VLANs and to maximize security for the company. There would be proper fiber cable to be routed throughout the office for the best connection. For a company this size we would also need routers to make sure that different communications can come from all the departments to the main home office. Firewalls would also need to be put in place to maximize security as well. With all this is place there can be a great workspace for everyone. For fiber there are a couple of topologies that could be used. First there is star topology and there is bus topology. Bus could be great because we would only have to use one cable for office and split off to each workstation. But bus could be more headaches when it comes to repairs and servicing the lines in the future. Star topology would work the best because we could route cable to multiple areas and can work on these issues when trouble arises. Star also is great for security and speed function because there are ways to be able to see how all the workstations are doing on the network without physically going to each workstation. In conclusion star topology will work for this location and work for optimal success.
