Law Protect To Women's Rights Case Study Presented by: Sarah McKeown, Nikolas Clarke, Eleanor Sibley, Natalie York, Anna Dannreuther Date: March 08, 2022 Ayesha's Case - Part 1 - Employment The following characteristics are protected characteristics: - In summer 2021, Ayesha applies for an internal role of Marketing Manager. She covered this role for six months in 2019 when the then Marketing Manager Ron went on sickness absence. - Ayesha is interviewed for the role by the Board of Directors, and they also seek 360° feedback on her current role from her colleagues. The feedback says that although Ayesha is very talented at marketing, colleagues sometimes do not like her because she comes across as 'bossy' and 'domineering'. When the Board asked for more information, the employee said that she would often remind colleagues of team deadlines, and would take the initiative on emailing clients with updates. - Ayesha interviews well but she does not get the role of Marketing Manager. Her colleague Max is recruited instead. On the day she finds out, she walks past the printer and sees a note of the Board's comments. They say:  "In the team we have, Ayesha's gung-ho attitude could be provocative, and emasculating for other team members. Ayesha also does not join Friday night drinks (or any of the pub outings), and this could be harmful for team morale. She tends to leave the office at 7pm to go and see her children. The team needs someone visible that they can look up to." - The team referred to is all male. Ayesha is shocked and she immediately resigns. Ayesha's Case - Part 2 – Housing - Ayesha has moved in with her parents, who are secure tenants of the local authority. Her father dies a year after she moves in, and her mother becomes the sole tenant by succession. Her mother dies 12 months later. - Ayesha applies to the local authority to be allowed to succeed to the tenancy of the premises. - The local authority refuses and serves a notice to quit on Ayesha. It then brings proceedings for possession of the property.
