The World of Mental Health In Smart Cities Presented by: Aleima Sharuna Date: March 01, 2023 Why Mental Health? - SDG TARGET 3.4 Noncommunicable diseases and mental health: By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non- communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being. - AND SDG TARGET 3.5 - Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UDHR Article 25(1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control. - International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) Article 12 (1): The States Parties to the present Covenant recognize the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. - UUD 45 (Indonesia Constitution)  Article 28H: (1) Every person shall have the right to live in physical and spiritual prosperity, to have a home and to enjoy a good and healthy environment, and shall have the right to obtain medical care. (2) Every person shall have the right to receive facilitation and special treatment to have the same opportunity and benefit in order to achieve equality and fairness.  Indonesia Law No. 39 Year 1999: Human Rights  Indonesian Law No. 36 Year 2009: Health  Indonesia Law No. 18 Year 2014: Mental Health What is Mentally Healthy? It is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community - based on WHO Connection to self and others, there are 3 aspects of Mentally Healthy, such as: 1. EMOTIONAL Energy in Motion. How do we express and release our emotion healthily? 2. PSYCHOLOGICAL How do we handle stress How much can we accept ourselves? How much confidence & autonomy do we have in our life? 3. SOCIAL WELL BEING Do we feel belong within our surroundings? How much healthy concern do we have towards them? What caused Mental & Emotional Issue in life? Sometimes in life, unfortunate things happen to us. Some give scars, some not. We got scared when faced with events we can't digest and process it whole-fully. Thus, impacting our ability to resolve it (inside), and experience it in isolation/loneliness. Creating Emotions, Body Sensations, Images, or Thoughts that are uncomfortable. Thus, we separate ourself from the inside and focus more on the outside Building Several Coping Mechanism That Are Unhealthy 1. Distraction >> Overwork 2. Denial >> Not Objective 3. Repression >> Blow up unexpectedly 4. Displacement >> Spread anger 5. Numbness >> Hard in Empathy 6. Rationalization >> Overthinking How To Prevent It? Our Needs: Psychoanalysis Since Birth – Developmental process – Now. 1. Emotional Fulfillment: Connection, Love, Warmth, Secure. Feel accepted as an emotional being 2. Psychological Fulfillment: Being seen, valued, accepted as who you are, trusted, have autonomy and power 3. Physical Fulfillment: Safety, comfort, physical connection, physical fulfillment, sexuality, intimacy How smart city can help its people to have healthier Mental & Emotion? "Smart cities are about people connecting with people. It is more than just technological advancements; it is about designing the advancements' community experience that include elements of culture, music, art, and language alongside technology," - Paula Kwan, Director of Civic Innovation at the City of Toronto 1. Integrated Health Care that connect ACE & developmental history and current health condition  Helping therapists, professionals, and doctors to see the current mental health condition based on range of history and current issues  To see based on data the correlation between their history and their current medical condition  Building better solutions based on gathered data, and track how these solutions works for them 2. Help people to build secure attachment since early years, thus contribute healthier relationship in the future  Provide technology that enable mothers to have minimum of 6 months maternity leave - supporting baby's exclusive breastfeed period. The period that a baby uses to select a primary attachment figure with most infants making up their minds in the period between 3 and 7 months. Or in Normal Symbiotic phase last until about 5 months. Thus, Is working from home possible? Is Virtual Assistant can help mothers to have quieter and longer quality time with baby?  Law No.18 Year 2014 Article 8 (2) Promotive effort in Family environment as it is referred to Article 1 (a) implemented in parenting and communication style within the family that support healthy growth and development of one's Mental Health  Law No.13 Year 2003 Article 81 (2) Female worker is entitled to have maternity leave for 1,5 months before birth and 1,5 months after birth (3 months in total) 3. Slow Living & Accessible Therapies/ Healing to Help them Cope & Realize their Ability  While technology make our work become easier, how do we use the space for ourselves rather than fulfill it with other agenda?  Educate people how therapy helps them to reconnect back to themselves as well as resolving unfinished issues in the past  Introduce healing modalities to widen people's understanding the importance of releasing and expressing emotion. Rather than consumed by outside business and repress it.  Law No.18 Year 2014 Article 8 (5): Promotive effort in society as referred to article (1) letter d is implemented as delivering communication, information, and education related to mental health as well as creating conducive environment for growth and development of one's mental health  Law No.18 Year 2014 Article 15 a. Building conducive social environment b. Deliver communication, information, and education to prevent any mental issues c. Provide counselling for those who needs it Challenge To Fulfill The Right To Mental Health? 1. Perception that Mental Health is not as important as Physical health >> Something that is not seen has more difficulty to be understood 2. How result and success does not equal to Happiness and fulfillment within a company 3. How early development is not seen as a critical point for a productive, healthy nation 4. Minimum number of therapists in certain areas Our Current Challenge Based on Law no.18 Year 2014  Indonesian government has supported its citizen's mental health through its written Law  However, many of us haven't seen it is being implemented, even more in integration  Although mental health topic is booming at this present, there are still stigma related to counseling, asking for help, or commit to therapies
