This experiment is important‬ ‭because it helps us visually see what different chemicals do when they react with each other. To‬ ‭start this lab we will mix different reactants and observe changes such as colour and‬ ‭temperature. We will then switch labs every ten minutes approximately and record those‬ ‭reactions too. By the end we should be able to fill up our entire table.‬ ‭In Reaction 1, the silver nitrate turned black, the silver was also displaced. In Reaction 2,‬ t‭he solution turned yellow instantly, which told us that lead iodide was forming. These reactions‬ ‭all involved colour change, the next reaction was gas formed, Reaction 5 there was bubbling‬ ‭and fizzing. Reaction 5 also had a temperature change when the bubbling and fizzing happened‬ ‭it also became slightly hot. In Reaction 4 a pink substance was formed when the chemicals‬ ‭reacted. There were two insoluble reactants, Reaction 2 (lead iodide was insoluble) and‬ ‭Reaction 4 (calcium carbonate was insoluble). There were three reactions with single‬ ‭displacement Reactions:1,3,5, and there were two reactions with double displacement: 2,4.‬ I‭n Reaction 1, copper displaced silver from silver nitrate, which formed copper (ll) nitrate. In‬ ‭Reaction 2 lead(ll) nitrate and potassium iodide swapped ions forming lead (ll) iodide precipitate‬ ‭and potassium nitrate. A real-world example of a double displacement reaction is the reaction‬ ‭between baking soda and vinegar; this forms carbon dioxide (gas,water, and sodium acetate).‬ ‭ hemical reactions have to be balanced to follow one of the main rules of chemistry, the‬ C ‭Law of Conservation of Mass, which says that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Balanced‬ ‭makes sure that the number of atoms of each element appear on both sides of the equation,‬ ‭which represents what happens in real-world reactions. If a reaction were not balanced it would‬ ‭mean atoms were lost or created, which is impossible. Chemical reactions are important in‬ ‭everyday life. Our bodies use oxygen to break down glucose, heat causes chemical reactions‬ ‭that change texture, color, and appearance of food. Another example is cleaning, solutions to‬ ‭break down stains and kill bacteria through chemical reactions.
