Professor Robert Bugg ENG 1301 Writing Project 2: Causal Argument 100 points (10%) Due Dates: Rough Draft Due: Wednesday, October 19, 2022 Peer Review Due: Friday, October 21, 2022 Final Draft Due: Friday, October 28, 2022 Purpose: take useful notes on a variety of texts; come up with a clear thesis; an engaging introduction; multiple, focused supporting paragraphs; a logical and effective organization of ideas; and a conclusion that opens up the argument to wider application; develop well-qualified claims with reasons and with evidence that are appropriate to an academic audience Assignment: Write a multi-paragraph essay in which you explore the causal relationships surrounding an issue regarding race and ethnicity. You should support your analysis with your personal experiences, your well-reasoned opinion on the subject, and/or information from Chapter 11 in Everything’s an Argument. You will also include research from two (2) sources from the database, Opposing Viewpoints, found in the UHD library’s databases. You must also utilize The 1619 Project as an additional source. Audience: Assume that you are writing an essay for the online version of the UHD Dateline newspaper. Your audience will be primarily UHD undergraduate students who have not read The 1619 Project but are very aware of the issues of race and ethnicity and how it has touched their lives in some way. Research: You are required to use three (3) sources in this assignment, two (2) chosen from Opposing Viewpoints, found in the UHD library’s databases, along with The 1619 Project. You are limited to the most current sources and should choose sources between the years 2012-2022. Note: You are not limited to print sources. Constraints: Your essay should be 1000-1250 words in length (not including the Works Cited). Your works cited page will appear on the last page of your essay. Your essay should be presented in MLA format.
