Discussion unit Business Law and Ethics Well If I find a prototype of a revolutionary new mobile phone lying on a public bench, what would I have done with it? What would be the consequences of my chosen action? I will first do what I am known to do always when an item is just sitting there in public, I will pick it for safe keeping and look around for the owner, and if none found I will check the device for a name or frequent called phone numbers because if someone left it there then it must belong to someone. If the device is not locked, then I will call which ever phone number I find on the device and try to ask if they knew who the person was or find numbers that has text messages of family relation to be able to get through to them and if this proof abortive then I will have to either leave it there which someone that will steal it or damage it will find it and it will be a sorry case. So I will not do that if its locked I will take it to the nearest police station and drop it there as a lost item and give them the location it was found. Since WhatsApp is great deal for advertising and announcing lost or items for sale in my country I will take a picture of the device and post it on my WhatsApp and write the details of where I found it, the consequences of my chosen action will be, after announcing it on social media and all local media space I can see, the owner might find it online and go to the nearest police station to reclaim the device. If I leave it there on the bench the probability that it will get to the owner is very thin, and also the probability the owner will find it in the station is also slim but I would have done my best. Does the value of a parcel of land come only from the profits it can generate? If not, what makes land valuable? Does it have an “inherent” value that has nothing to do with human profit? Land value is the value of the land, as well as any improvements that have been made to it. the real value of land will be determined when there is short supply of it. Though the value of land does not only come from the profits it can generate, the value of any land will be determined by the location and demand. Which is why I can say that land can have an inherent value that has nothing to do with human profit. How is intellectual property a true form of property? Do you think it is appropriate for governments to protect intellectual property just like any other form of property? Explain your answer. An intellectual property is Intangible property, the product of human ingenuity, protected by law,(Lau & Johnson, 2011). It can be owned by an individual or organization. It is appropriate for governments to protect intellectual property just like any other form of property to foster innovation and to protect businesses and individual for them to reap full benefits of their innovation or labor. Without government intervention, there will be a lot of fake and mostly stealing others work and making profits from it.
