Windshield Survey Windshield Survey Introduction The purpose of this paper to assess the community and determine its needs and the current available resources. Assessing the needs of the community, will help determine what the members of the community could benefit from. The needs of each community varies based on its members, so in doing this survey helps establish a starting point of the needs or advantages they have. The community of Tilton, Illinois is a small village within the Danville Township with a population of 2,647 in 2018. It has a total square mile of 3.243, 3.21 is land and the rest is water. The racial makeup is predominately Caucasian and primarily married couples. However, there is other races in the community, variety of household types and 8.6% of the population below the poverty level. The Windshield Survey When doing this survey I wasn’t optimistic at how much I could tell from just driving around the community. However, it was very enlightening what you notice when you take a few moments to. I was able to see the strengths and weaknesses of the community. The community has many strengths available to its community members. They are a grocery store with fresh fruits and vegetables, access to local bus service, access to services that Danville Township provide, local laundromat, volunteer fire department, police department, churches, gas station, dollar general, and a few small local restaurants. Windshield Survey The community’s weaknesses were no local access to doctor’s office, no access to local bus service on the weekends, volunteer fire department, no community center, no local hospital/emergency room, schools not within walking distance, and no dental provider offices. The community is small enough that if able the community members could walk to many of its available resources. However, they do have access during the weekdays to the bus service and services provided by Danville Township. The township offers help with rent, food bank, rides to appointments for disabled or elderly community members. Depending on the needs of the community member the township will try to assist any way they can to help. Nursing Interventions I am going to suggest that we focus on three priority nursing interventions for this community. In doing this we will focus on the top needs of the community at this moment. The top interventions include: Organize focus groups to assess health needs, evaluate the community’s access to health care and knowledge of risk factors and provide information regarding illness prevention, health promotion, and health services. The need to organize focus groups is a high priority because we need the community’s input on what they need in regard to their health needs. First, we need to get the level of understanding of health needs from the community. Everyone is not at the same level in their understanding of health. This will be at the basis on where we need to start in our process of the community’s health needs. Second, we need to get the community’s response to what health services they could benefit from. There are many topics that we can address and get help from Healthy People 2020. This website is full of resources, objectives, tools and much more that can assist with the Windshield Survey community’s needs. Once we narrow down the health needs of this community, we need to create a plan to initiate the needs. To make sure this is all successful the community needs to be involved with each step as much as possible. The community needs to understand the importance of their input and help. Conclusion In conclusion there are many aspects of this community that the community members benefits from. They have access to many available needed resources, and there is room for improvement within the community. Available health resources is much needed within the community. Access to a closer healthcare needs is the main concern for the community.
