Philosophy Paper - Nursing

The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing philosophy starts off by saying, nursing is a discipline of knowledge and professional practice grounded in caring. Nursing makes a unique contribution to society by nurturing the wholeness of persons and environment in caring. Caring in nursing is an intentional mutual human process in which the nurse artistically responds with authentic presence to calls from persons to enhance well-being (Philosophy, 2020). The first few sentences sets the tone of Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing’s philosophy. Caring is the main component that is a part of this philosophy and how nursing is both an art and science. The philosophy goes on to say how unique nursing is and how the gain of knowledge critically will prove to be effective to in the nursing field to take and accumulate for the greater good of future endeavors. Learning for nurses will be done in a supportive environment that offers to grow individuals that the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing will provide to its nurses. The Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing states, it provides quality undergraduate and graduate educational programs within an atmosphere of scholarly inquiry, professional values, inter-professional collaboration, and community service (Mission, Vision and Values for Nursing at NSU, 2020). The mission of Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing is to transform healthcare leaders who hold great value for excellence in nursing practice, education, and as well as research. The depths that this organization goes to, to mold and shape nurses is affluential and helpful to the workforce that they eventually go into. The extent that the philosophy goes into is clear and holds some of the same standards that Sister Roach embodies. The Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing entails compassion, and within the compassion there is caring, empathy, as well as supporting others in order to alleviate the distress that many carry as a burden that is too much to handle. When these two philosophies are compared there is great similarity between the two. The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing states that, humans choose values that give meaning to living and enhance well-being. Well-being is creating and living the meaning of life. Persons are nurtured in their wholeness and well-being through caring relationships (Philosophy, 2020), and the Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing states that, creativity is the ability to transcend traditional ideas, patterns and rules as well as having the capacity to construct meaningful new ideas, methods, and interpretations (Mission, Vision and Values for Nursing at NSU, 2020). These two statements from different organizations align as if they were from the same philosophy. They both say that as nurses it is our responsibility to create and go far beyond to care for individuals. Creating bonds and relationships that not only last, but care for the richness of others who can’t care for themselves. Caring for individuals on a different spectrum meaning outside of the box. Taking leadership to create a sense of peace in the atmosphere of the nursing world. Leadership requires honesty and the Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing expresses that integrity is a necessity that they instill upon the nurses that they train. According to the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, beliefs about learning and environments that foster learning are grounded in our view of person, the nature of nursing and nursing knowledge and the mission of the University (Philosophy, 2020). The environment is detrimental to leadership and can prove to elevate nurses in the field as well as out of the field. The point of both programs is to not only create nurses for acute establishments, but for life changing lessons that will give nurses the skills to operate for the greater good of others no matter where they are at any given time. There is no limit when it comes to being a leader for others and it isn’t limited to the nursing field alone. Leadership is a mindset that is adapted from these two similar organizations.
