It is a multidisciplinary field that combines principles of biology, chemistry, engineering, and computer science to create new tools and applications in healthcare, agriculture, environmental science, and industry. The field of biotechnology has revolutionized many areas of human endeavor, from developing new medicines to producing sustainable biofuels. One of the main areas of biotechnology is genetic engineering, which involves modifying the genetic material of organisms to create desired traits or functions. Genetic engineering has been used to create new varieties of crops with improved yields or resistance to pests and diseases, as well as to produce new medicines, such as insulin for the treatment of diabetes.
