What was significant about the time? When the prisoners were finally unloaded from the train, they were at Auschwitz-Birkenau, one of the most notorious concentration camps. The time was nightfall, which was significant because it added to the atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, and also because it made it difficult for the prisoners to see their surroundings clearly.
